Storyboard

Will and Gabe came over today to finish up the storyboard! Looks like we are making good time for our deadline. We plan to shoot this weekend and in light of that we have already booked studio time throughout the next couple of weeks.

Office Space - Printer Smashing Scene

Reconnaissance

To get started on this project we first need to select a clip. In leu of the "stress strike" (see: Alex Nasser) we have decided to chose a scene from Mike Judge's, "Office Space"!

The clip includes three characters letting out some steam as they beat a printer with a baseball bat after two of them were let go from their jobs. Later, they get a little intoxicated and party out....

Cast & Crew:
Joseph L. - Peter Gibbons
Alex N. - Samir Nagheenanajar
Gabe W. - Michael Bolton

Camera 1 - William Wong
Camera 2 - Adam Jimmy

Logo Development

After browsing through several magazines to get a feel for different designs we noticed that companys sometimes change their logo for any given campaign. For each ad we thought it would be cool to make a new Bogaroo: Notions logo and also develop a logo for our client.

Will got right on making our new Notions logo and me on the Ice Wear logo:

Brainstorming

Spent some time sitting around with a pack a brew sketching out some of our ideas for this campaign. Check it out.. we plan to sleep on the idea for a couple days, pick out our favourite two and then prepare them for Joe's class.

Reconnaissance

Will and I were recently acquired to help design a box for a new women's accessory. The client is "Ice Wear" and they are in the business of designing stilletto straps, bra straps and necklaces. Along with a new box design we have decided to also produce a magazine campaign in which they could use for the future.

Here are some raw images we will use for inspiration and design:

Mounting and Presentation

We have sent "The Line", "City High", "KB||BK", "MADE IN CHINA" and "SCREAMER" to the printer. I will be sticking City High on my board this weekend with Will. As for the rest? Probably mount them on foam board.

Feels great to look back and see how we went from one blank page to all this. With some hard work, dedication and a positive atmosphere pretty much anythings possible.

Here's a peak at all the designs some pre-completion and some to be completed in the future...

Decision Making Process

With so many different ideas stirring up in our pot and a deadline racing due we decided to again prioritize ourselves and start to focus on a finish product.

We have just completed four of the ten ideas. We were fortunate to also of been referred to a printer which can print our design on a sticker. To bring the final cost down for our prints we decided to include several of our classmates to negotiate a group deal.

We originally decided to design all ten ideas, but with time running out we decide to invest a few more hours in pumping just two more designs.

Sketching

Me and Alex came up with some great ideas. We have decided to sketch them out and discuss as much detail as possible. For each one we suggested a title and a colour palette to be used.

The sketches we've produced:

Brainstorming

It felt great discussing ideas after a few beers. We started off looking for just one design each, but after accumulating a list of over ten designs we decided that we may have to take a more professional approach and create several different versions and then decide which ones to use as our final.

Here is what we came up with:

I know, I know... just a bunch of names now, but we're about to start sketching...!

Acquiring Production Materials

Okay, so now we know a little bit more about our target market and have a good feel for what we would like to produce. To get us in the right mood to start designing we made a trip downtown too X-Village Skte Shop on Danforth. There we picked up two blank boards, a pair of trucks and two sets of wheels.

Check out the gear!

We had the clerk at the shop layout some grip for our boards and we're all set, but before we headed home we had to fill our stomachs and grab a few beers before hitting the drawing board!!

Reconnaissance

Developing ideas would be difficult from the start since both me and Alex dont skateboard. We decided to do research by exploring skate parks and skateboard shops throughout the city.

Alex suggested there is a skateboard park nearby in North York. Here are a few shots we took.

One thing we noticed is that all the skateboard designs we've seen rarely involve anything related to skateboards. So, in reality the designs may be completely unrelated.

In gathering information we must first set to understand what our demographics will be. In our designs we will target an audience of between 10-25 years olds. Now let us rest and we'll be back to the drawing board tomorrow.

Convergence...

In establishing a foundation to build on for the next few years of our lives we present to you, Bogaroo Notions. After several hours of working through projects and assignments both I, Alex Nasser and my trusted partner William Wong have discovered that maybe our friendship could go beyond just study buddies. We've decided to put our ideas, skills and visions together and launch our own studio.

Throughout this blog we will document our progess on projects we develop together throughout the next four semesters. All work from brainstorming ideas, to the creation and presentation of each piece are derived from original ideas and worked on by both myself and Will.

We will continue to update this blog throughout the year. Feel free to also see our personal progress on our individual blogs:
Alex Nasser & William Wong .

Enjoy!
